Operations training, among other things, came into the spotlight in late 2006 during a Coroners Inquest into a collapse of a storage system which resulted in the death of a worker.
One of the recommendations put forward by the jury was that the lift equipment operators be properly trained in how to use the storage systems within their facility.
Generally speaking, most manufacturers of storage systems do not at this time provide this other than some general written instructions. Unfortunately this may not be enough, or the operators over time begin to get lax in their us of the systems. This could have serious consequences if this situation continues.
SafeRack has had in place and in development since 2004, programs for training operators on the proper way to load and unload storage systems. These programs will continue to evolve as new or updated systems appear in the marketplace and as the standards change.
These programs are typically both in-class and hands-on training which requires the demonstration of proficiency in the skill sets needed to safely and properly use the systems within their facility.
